The Happy Prince Story: Once upon a time, in a big city, there was a tall statue of the “Happy Prince”. The statue was made of gold and looked very beautiful. Everyone in the city liked and admired the Happy Prince.
One cold winter at night, a little bird named Swallow was flying to a warmer place. Tired and cold, the Swallow decided to rest at the feet of the Happy Prince. The Happy Prince and the Swallow became a friend soon.
The Happy Prince couldn’t move, but he saw the sadness and poverty in his kingdom. He asked the Swallow for help. The Happy Prince wanted the Swallow to take the rubies, gold leaves, and sapphires from the statue’s body and give them to the poor people.
The Swallow agreed and started helping the Happy Prince. Every day, they gave away precious things to the poor. Days turned into weeks, and weeks turned into months. The Happy Prince was happy because he was helping the needy with the Swallow.
One freezing night, the Swallow couldn’t bear the freezing weather anymore. Sadly, the little bird passed away. The next morning, the ministers in the city noticed that the Happy Prince looked shabby without his gold and gems. They decided to burn the statue.
God saw what happened and told his Angel to bring him the two most precious things. The Angel brought the heart of the Happy Prince and the body of the little bird. God said, “In my Paradise, these two precious things, the little bird and the Happy Prince’s heart, shall sing and live forever.” And so, the Happy Prince and the Swallow found eternal happiness in God’s Paradise.
